Starch! It’s not just for shirts….

Want to eat a “plant-forward” diet, but find it’s hard to manage your weight? Yup, that happens to many of us. Starches are to blame.

I have been experimenting with a “plant-forward” eating plan. More plants, less meat. And I’ve gained a few pounds!

What? It’s supposed to be healthier!

Yes, and it is in many respects. But for someone like me, who gains weight easily, there are “plants,” and there are “plants.” They do not all interact with my body in the same way. The starches, for instance, send my blood sugar sky high, and tend to encourage my body to store fat.

We got it wrong. Diabetes is not a blood sugar problem.

We got it wrong! Diabetes is not a blood sugar problem at all. It’s an insulin problem.

Elevated blood sugar is a CONSEQUENCE of the problem, but it is not THE problem.

Did you know that if you are at risk for type 2 diabetes, your insulin level could be elevated right now? And damage could be happening inside your body even before anything shows up on a blood test? And without any symptoms at all?

What do you know about your blood sugar?

Is a CGM the next big thing in bio-tracking? I think so!

If you have ever had a blood test to check your glucose level, you got a "snapshot" of what it was at that exact moment in time.

If you have ever gotten a "HgA1C" test, then you've seen a "snapshot" of your average blood sugar for the 3-month period of time leading up to that blood test.

But what you DON'T have is a continuous reading of your blood sugar during a 24-hour day, day after day. You have no idea what's happening when you are fasting, after eating, with exercise, and during sleep. You can't tell which foods YOU react to with a blood sugar spike and which foods work great for your blood sugar control!

That's where a continuous glucose monitor comes in.
